More Than an Orchestra

Fanfare, or the Fanfare Festival Orchestra (FFO) is a democratically-led, youth ensemble and organization that aims to make music more accessible and fun through public performances and youth development initiatives.

Fanfare performs as a cohesive ensemble but also splits into solo performers and smaller chamber groups to maximize its impact. At the same time, we engage in a series of youth development programs, offering rare opportunities for high school students to study conducting, premier compositions, and play as soloists.

Members can choose to participate in any or all of our projects — from performing at retirement facilities to experimenting with avant-garde music presentations. Whether you want to conduct, compose, or simply play, there's a place for you.

Three Pillars

Artist Development

We give members rare opportunities to play as soloist, conduct, and premier compositions. Rotating between unique opportunities, we build musicians with social responsibility and creativity.

Community Engagement

Through intentional programming, local performances, and collaborations with charities, we make music accessible. A centerpiece is our regular performances in hospitals and retirement homes.

Culture Ambassadorship

We explore musical styles beyond the standard Western canon, using art as a force for cultural understanding. Diverse musicians working together to bridge conflict through artistry.

Our Projects

Performing at retirement facilities for free, bringing music to those who need it most.

Performing light classical and popular music on campus in Music Department-affiliated and public concerts.

Youth development and musicianship-building for aspiring soloists, composers, conductors, and musicologists.

Collaborating with Theater & Dance in Grasshopper and the DramaLab program.

Exploring the influence of light classical music on modern popular music and its role in artistic and social movements.

Experimenting with technology-conscious and avant-garde presentations of music, including AI-generated content.
